By  many years of practice we will be good at meditation to free ourselves  from pain in life to reach enlightenment.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;In short, Be in the present. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;"Dwell on the? past, and you rob the present. Ignore the past, and you rob the future."&lt;span class="style66"&gt; - anonymous&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;The most popular shitting meditation, ZAZEN (Japanese word) is literally translated as "shitting(ZA) meditation(ZEN)"&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;I hated doing this when I was  living in Japan!  Monks were too scary during the ZAZEN.  They watch you  while you are doing ZAZEN and when they find you sleepy or notice your  attention is drifted or physically moving a bit, they will come to you  to hit your shoulder with flat long board(Kyosaku).  And you have to  thank to them hitting you.  Here is a sample video which is not scary  one. And if the owner knows about Kyosaku, they seem to  conduct the act in the same scary manner.  I attended ZAZEN in AIKIDO  studio in Mountain View, CA and it was tense.  I couldn't focus on  anything but tense feeling and pain from my legs.  The leader or teacher  would scold at me or yell at me if I move a bit.  So I was struggling  with pain in my body for whole time, forgetting what's for I am doing  this.  My body tensed up with pain and anger.  After 45 minutes of ZAZEN  session, my legs were dead... I couldn't stand up.  It was funny.  The  leader/teacher was smiling with warmth after the severe ZAZEN session.   It's the focus.  Very serious focus on something..... For me, my focus  was pain and try not to be scold at. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;Yes, there were more soft type of  ZAZEN out there.  I attended one of ZAZEN at Japanese Zen temple in San  Francisco, CA.  The monk didn't care if I moved a bit.  I liked this  one.  Also Zen center in Sunnyvale, CA is not scary to attend for ZAZEN.   They won't hit you with Kyosaku. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;But hitting by a Kyosaku give you  super charge of KI. Refreshing power into your mind and body. So, I  guess it's good. Reiki can be found in ancient texts of  Tibet thousands of years ago. Reiki is thought to be 6,000 years old.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;Reiki has been traced moving from  Tibet to India and then through many cultures including Egypt, Greece  and Rome. China and Japan also had this knowledge and Shamans used it in  prehistory from both China and Japan. The teachers of this wisdom kept  it very well guarded from the common folk and taught it only to the  privileged few. Centuries later when it was discovered in ancient  manuscripts, the modern scholars often misinterpreted this hidden inner  knowledge because of encryption methods and hidden symbols meant to  preserve the ways for the&lt;br /&gt;special few.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;In the mid-nineteenth century, Dr.  Mikao Usui rediscovered in those ancient manuscripts the keys to release  Reiki energy. Grand Master Hawayo Takata has told the story of Dr.  Usui’s search and I paraphrase it here. … Dr. Usui was a teacher at a  Christian Seminary in Kyoto, Japan around 1910. One day his students  asked him how it was that Jesus was able to heal the blind and raise the  dead. Dr. Usui could not get the question out of his mind and in a  search for truth he left his position and came to America in hopes of  finding an answer. In America, he got a Doctorate of Theology at the  University of Chicago but the Theologians could not answer his question.  So he traveled to India and studied the ancient manuscripts there. He  could read and write Japanese, Chinese, English and Sanskrit.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="style54"&gt;Then he learned of some Sanskrit  formulas in some old Buddhist sutras so he returned to Japan and took  residence in a monastery in Kyoto. He asked the abbot for the answer as  to how Jesus healed. The Abbott sent Dr. Usui to the holy mountain of  Kuriyama to fast and meditate for 21 days. Just before dawn on the 21st  day he saw a shining light streaking toward him. It became bigger and  bigger and hit him right in the forehead. He thought he was dying when  he suddenly saw millions of little bubbles in every color and a great  white light showing the Sanskrit symbols he had studied glowing in  shining gold and he said, “Yes, I remember.” When he returned to  consciousness the sun was high in the sky and he felt full of strength  and energy and began to run down the mountain. He stumbled and stubbed  his toe. He held his foot in his hands for a few seconds and pain went  away and the bleeding stopped. Since I love yoga, I decided to try it. During  class I was a little hesitant to do some of the poses as I have had some  sharp wrist pain for a couple months. After the first class, the pain  was almost half gone. The week after, it has become intermittent. With  massage, I am able to help the pain diminish. I look forward to future  classes. Aya is a very calming spirit and I enjoy being in her class.  The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Hakone Gardens makes it even a  more serene experience. The immediate affects I felt were: gain flexibility,  lost weight and able to bend my injured knee which was almost  impossible only a few weeks before I started the Seitai. But the  greatest benefit, I feel, is the ability to feel "centered" which is  great especially if you are into meditation and holistic approaches in  life.&lt;br /&gt;The exercise is very soothing and the instructor always  emphasizes to proceed "on your accord" and "communication with your  body" which I greatly appreciate. I have taken other exercise programs  that push learners and I ended up injuring myself. The basic concept of  "Ki" flow is very practical Eastern approach to heightening awareness.
